Alot of people are gonna question this but the monkey you play as isn't the great sage equal to heaven, while in some parts maybe, but it'll be mostly the other monkey by the looks of it, and according to the story, there are 2 monkeys, Wu Kong and someone else, Wu Kong holds the golden staff, while the other holds the sliver, and according to the story, these two fought and Buddha in the end stripped the other monkeys powers away, so No, you are not gonna play as the great sage by the looks of it
